Morroco is one of those places you just need to visit at least once in your life. It is a truly spectacular country with so much to offer. Meander your way through the rabbit warren of market stalls in Marrakech, sleep under the stars in the Sahara Desert, or marvel at the wonder of the blue city of Chefchouen. And don’t even get me started on how good the food is! I often dream of tagine and chicken trid.
There are many language spoken in Morocco, with the most common being Arabic. Many people also speak English and you may also encounter some that speak indigenous Berber!
The currency used in Morocco is the dirham. Many popular places will accept card, however it is a good idea to carry around cash for food and stall vendors. You can withdraw money at one of the many ATMs in major cities.
Morocco uses Type C and E plugs. The standard voltage is 220V and the standard frequency is 50Hz.
Morocco has a bad reputation for not being the safest place to travel, particularly for females. This isn’t actually the case – I travelled around the country and only felt unsafe once. Places like Marrakesh are also not very strict with women covering their bodies – however try to be respectful of their culture when entering some of the religious attractions and dress appropriately.
If you are not on a tour, the best way to travel between cities in Morocco is via train. They are fast and relatively comfortable. You may also want to take a bus, but this is only marginally cheaper than a train and will take longer. Taxis are easily accessible in all major cities.
